UK Crater?
The Silverpit crater in the North Sea has received a fair bit of media attention. Here's some more.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/6503543.stm.
The work in question was carried out by Dr. Zana Conway, author of our Meteor Crater tutorial. Prof. John Underhill was her supervisor for the PhD work. The article makes it sound like the Prof. did the work - I can assure readers this is not the case and Zana did most (if not all) of work on this!
Essentially the Silverpit structure is very much like some other structures in the North Sea, meaning a more mundane explaination, of salt withdrawl, is more likely. However, the only possible way to test this, is to drill it and check for telltale signs, such as shock quartz, something that can't really be done on a PhD budget.

Silverpit
Fri, 03/30/2007 - 23:01Have to say that I think that it is salt related too.
To be fair, John's been saying this for many years.

Salt withdrawl can't explain
Sat, 03/31/2007 - 07:47Salt withdrawl can't explain all of the features of Silverpit though. That is essentially what Zana's (and John's) poster will say at AAPG - again not quite matching the content of the BBC article.
Geologists are gneiss!!
